Jordan Spieth’s Humiliation Continues as Golf World Rubs Salt in His ‘OWGR’ Wounds

The 3X Major Champion Jordan Spieth, was once on the No. 1 position on the OWGR list. In 2105, he first won the Masters at the Augusta National, defeating Phil Mickelson and Justin Rose by 4 strokes. This was followed by a second position in the PGA Championship tying with Jason Day. He enjoyed the first position for 26 weeks, and also conquered his second Major, the US Open, the same year, where he defeated Dustin Johnson and Louis Oosthuizen by just one stroke!

However, the impressive player does not seem to have a great season this year, which resulted in him dropping out of the top 20 on the ranking list. Although Spieth started with a great start at the first signature event of the PGA Tour, with a solo third finish at 27-under, he soon dropped down to a T39 at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

Rising himself to the Top 10 at the WM Phoenix Open, he was disqualified at The Genesis Invitational for signing an incorrect scorecard. He signed for a three on the fourth hole but made a four. An account on X stated, “Jordan Spieth out of top 20 for the first time in almost three years… #OWGR📉

Accepting his mistake, Spieth said, “Today, I signed for an incorrect scorecard and stepped out of the scoring area, after thinking I went through all procedures to make sure it was correct. Rules are rules, and I take full responsibility. I love this tournament and golf course as much as any on @PGATOUR so it hurts to not have a run at the weekend. Appreciated the support in LA.”

Jordan Spieth also missed the cut at 4 events of the Tour this year – THE PLAYERS, Valspar Championship, Masters Tournament, and The CJ CUP Byron Nelson. Well, this time, Spieth had brought it on him, and the golf community seemed to be showing no empathy for the situation.

Golf Community says Jordan Spieth has ‘no business in Top-40’!

Jordan Spieth was in the 15th rank at the end of last year. He had already faced a drop due to his terrible performance this year and was in the 20th position. However, the cut at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson brought him down to the 21st rank, for the first time in 3 years, where in 2021, he dropped down to the 51 rank!

Spieth lost a total of -60.95525 points in 2024 and has only gained 44.27595 points. The player, who dismissed all rumours of joining LIV Golf in 2022, and being committed to the PGA Tour, has already dropped one rank. Had he joined LIV Golf, there would have been no OWGR points addition, and god knows where he would have landed himself. Taking to this, one of them wrote, “Jordan falling off a cliff even without joining LIV. Love watching him but this is funny.”

Another follower, bringing in the same point, stated that with a performance like this, had he joined the breakaway league, he would have already been outside the list of Top-30. They also brought Justin Thomas, the former No. 1 Golf Player to the comparison. He has not had a great year, himself, and dropped down to the 29th rank this week from rank 28. They wrote, “Would be outside top 30 if not for LIV.  JT would be outside the top 45.”
