Agata Świątek Paved the Way for Iga Świątek. She learned tennis with her father, who made mistakes along the way. “I feel no resentment,” says Agata Świątek, sister of the Roland Garros champion, speaking to Eurosport.pl. She talks about a career that never gained momentum, her childhood with Iga, different from that of her peers, the role of parents in upbringing, and why her mother avoids the limelight.

All eyes were on her too when she stood next to her father on Philippe Chatrier’s court, occasionally leaning on him. Agata and Mr. Tomasz celebrated Iga Świątek’s unexpected triumph, who conquered the courts of Roland Garros at the age of 19.
It’s a family success. Agata started playing tennis first, guided to the court by her father, a former rower. She brought home the first trophies, becoming an inspiration for her sister, three years her junior.

She didn’t make it in her career. For various reasons, but she regrets nothing. She followed in her mother’s footsteps, who works as an orthodontist.

KRZYSZTOF ZABOROWSKI: We heard from Iga Świątek herself that her life turned upside down. Did something change for you too?

AGATA ŚWIĄTEK: When Iga won the last point in the final, celebrating in the stands, I asked my dad, “What now?” I felt that this victory would have a huge impact on our lives and that much could change. It’s been several days since that success. I’m trying to get back into my rhythm because although I support my sister very much, I’ve chosen a different path in life where I want to fulfil myself.

I’m studying dentistry at the Medical University of Lublin. I have plenty of activities. Of course, many people at the university congratulated me. They knew I was Iga’s sister, although I don’t boast about it.

However, I must admit that for years, watching the finals of Grand Slam tournaments, I wondered what the day after each champion’s victory looked like. And now Iga has experienced it, as the first Polish woman in history, still very young. It must be sensational, attracting attention.
